With Mother Nature cooperating for a change, the SBL Reno
project took a large step forward this week.
All excavation was completed.
Thus, at the start of the week, we not only had a couple of large holes
in the ground, but what appeared like a moat going around them. The guys worked hard setting up forms and
getting the area ready.
Midweek the cement mixer came, making all of us who were
parked in the lot a little nervous. But
our driver was very skilled; he maneuvered around filling our moat with
cement. More forms were added and …
presto! It appears that we have our
foundation – or maybe its foundation footings?
In all honesty, I’m not 100% sure of my terms.
What I do know is that this first step is completed and because of this the framing of walls can happen and a slab for the floor can be poured. If the weather holds, it is hoped that the slab can be poured next week. If not, plan B and C are also in the works.
Meanwhile, while the weather is so nice, come take a walk
around the Town Green and check out our newest piece in the puzzle: a large grey container arrived on site this
morning!
Inside the Library, staff has been discussing the Circulation
Desk. As those of you who visit the
Library know, our old, current desk has seen better days. We would like to revamp and reconfigure. In the past couple of weeks, Su has met with
several companies that handle Circulation desks – their creation and
installation. We have some plans that we
like, BUT…
As you may well imagine, they are very costly items. It would appear that a new Circ Desk for our
space will cost between $10,000 and $20,000!
We are currently looking into ways to fund this project. However, our window for making a commitment
is short!! If anyone has ideas or would
like to make a donation – having your very own Circulation Desk named after you
– please contact us at the Library!
