A Place for Everything and Everything in its Place

As our patrons know, the Library space is tight and cluttered.  In our attempts to provide information to the community about the library, the town, the school, local businesses and events, etc. etc. etc., we sometimes end up looking like an exploded paper factory.  I assure you this vexes everyone!

While we been at the Mini B. and forced by circumstance to limit what we can post, we have been thinking about how to deal with the too much clutter issue.  On the one hand, we want to provide as much information as possible.  On the other hand, supplying too much information and it all gets lost in a blur.

We need you!  Please write us as : sbl_building@columbiactlibrary.org with your suggestions for what kind of information you’d like to see us keep or abandon and any ideas you’d like to suggest to help us fight the Clutter Monsters.

A Window into the Future

This week at the Library, we've been watching the windows! The construction crew have been working to replace the windows in the older section of the building -- the new windows will match those going into the renovation, and they'll work better to conserve energy in our space.

Here we see the crew moving to install one of the new bay windows in the children's area. I heard one of them say, "Man, this is heavy!" while doing the lifting. :)

It also looks like they've completed the shingling on the roof, and with the windows in, the majority of the work should move to the inside of the building.

Until next time,
Cait

A Window To A New Space -- and New Shingles!

This image greeted us on the way into work on Friday morning!
More progress was made this week. The Library windows were put into place! Almost more exciting was seeing Tyvek appearing on the walls. This is always a sign of a construction project!

On Thursday, roofers worked on adding shingles to the new roof. You can see the new windows and Tyvek, too!

Then, we were really excited to see the appearance of new shingles, starting on Thursday! The weather has held up, so today, we saw the roofers working on removing the older shingles and replacing them to match the new roof.

Replacing the shingles on the old roof!

Soon, the majority of the work will be on the inside of the building. It will in many ways become more vital as HVAC and electric are installed, but far less visible for all of us anxiously watching.

Progress is good.  The project will be completed and Spring will come!  All the signs are here.

A New Look

While the guys have been hard at work on and in the new building, the town, architect and Library have been working on the future interior.  When visitors arrive to the renovated library, they might miss the old orange carpet.  (We won’t!)

Our new base color scheme will be shades of grey.  While some may think this is dull, we would like to remind you that we really are only talking about the floor!  Think of a grey carpet like the pallet for the thousands of colors and patterns reflected in the shelved materials and displayed!  We promise, the Library will remain a colorful place.
