Happy Thanksgiving!

It is our hope that all of you had a very happy Thanksgiving!

As we now start the countdown to the Holidays, we have exciting news!  I’ve been told that on November 23, a cement permit was issued for the Library building.  I must admit, I didn’t know that such a thing existed.

At a meeting this week, we have set up weekly project meeting dates, discussed staging areas, and discussed preliminary scheduling. The pouring of concrete and deliveries of supplies should be the first visible signs of construction. These should happen any time now!  It is likely that the parking space that is parallel to the Library directly behind the building will be blocked off; however traffic patterns should remain the same.

We're looking forward to seeing some activity in the next few weeks!

Lots of Excitement!

The Mini B. was buzzing this week!  Our Cookies and Coloring for Grown-ups program was a big success with participants asking for more.  (Watch our Facebook page and newsletter for our next session!)  On Wednesday, with all our Columbia Stitchers present, Cait did the drawing for the Afghan Raffle.  Congratulations go to Haley Robbins!  And thanks to all who participated, it was one of our best fund raisers, ever!  100% of the proceeds will go to help us fund a Traditional Maker’s Space.  We hope to start this project in the Mini B, and expand it when we return to our normal space.

We were also excited this week to see the large sign get posted in front of the old building, and watch as ‘call before you dig’ markings appeared on the grass behind the old building.

Another bit of excitement was the observation of a Blue Heron that flew by the Mini B. heading to visit West Cemetery.  We’re hoping he’ll visit us again.

Most of all, we are excited about Thanksgiving as we all look forward to family, food, and festivities.  Just a reminder, the Library will be closed at 3:00 pm Wednesday, Nov 25, the day before Thanksgiving, and will re-open normal hours on Friday, November 27.

From all of us at the Mini B, we wish you a happy Thanksgiving!

Coming Soon

Some of you may have noticed the start of a large sign on the Library’s front lawn.  Imagine it reading, “Coming Soon”.  Actually it will read the town’s name, that our project is state funded, and … the name of our contractor!

I’m happy to share that the town has signed a contract with builder, Robert McCabe of Millennium Builders (Rocky Hill).  We are grateful the weather is holding and hope that things will start soon.

Meanwhile, be sure to visit the Friends of the Library’s book sale this weekend in the Chapel.  The FOL book sale proceeds provide for Museum Passes, audio books, DVDs and more that the Library couldn’t provide without them!

Thanks to…

It hardly seems possible that we have completed the first week of November, but at least the weather has been with us!  Thanksgiving will be here before you know it.  On this front, I have to share that the Library has gotten in some very good looking new cookbooks!  (I’ve been watching The Great British Baking Show on TV, and as they say, some of the dishes look ‘scrummy’!)

But on the topic of thanks - Thanks to all who came out to vote!  And thanks to all of you who also ventured across the street to visit us!

Thanks also to the Friends of the Library who opened up their book sale for Election Day.  The Friends support is invaluable to us.  The Chapel and their volunteerism save the town thousands of dollars each year!

While there is still nothing I can report, I can share with all of you that there has been several meetings this week that are keeping the building renovation plans in motion.  I hope that we will be seeing something and have info to report to you soon.
